A drunk driver hit and killed an elderly woman in Downtown Santa Monica on Sunday.
According to the Santa Monica Police Department, Rogelio Bobadilla, 28, was arrested for DUI, hit and run causing death and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
Lieutenant Candice Cobarrubias said officers were called at about 12:50 a.m. on November 17 for a hit and run at the intersection of 5th and Arizona. She said Bobadilla failed to stop at a red light and hit a woman who was in the crosswalk.
Bobadilla fled the scene but witnesses provided detailed information about his vehicle and the description matched a second accident that had been reported at Lincoln and Olympic. Officers found the car but Bobadilla had fled the scene of the second accident on foot. He was eventually found in the area and arrested.
Cobarrubias said the Traffic Collision investigator will be presenting the case to the Los Angeles District Attorney for filing.
