Saturday, March 21, at 11:32 p.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the 1100 block of Second Street — the Huntley Hotel — regarding a report of a fight. Witnesses told officers that a fight ensued near the hotel’s valet area after a man inappropriately grabbed another man’s girlfriend. In response, the boyfriend, who police said was under the influence of alcohol, allegedly punched the man. Both were placed under arrest. The suspects were identified as Mark David Kasden, 46, from Calabasas; and Jon Bliss Warren, 41, from Toluca Lake. Kasden was booked for battery while Warren was booked for battery and public intoxication. Bail was set at $20,000.
Tuesday, March 17, at 12 p.m.,
A motorcycle officer on patrol in the 1500 block of Ocean Avenue stopped a car for speeding. The officer made contact with the driver and learned that he had an outstanding warrant. The officer also recognized the two passengers as local gang members or gang associates. After arresting the driver for possession of a switchblade knife, the officer searched the car and found beer and marijuana inside. The officer also found a replica firearm, beanies and a pair of gloves behind the driver’s seat. The officer believed the occupants and the driver had just completed a robbery or were planning to commit a robbery. All occupants were arrested for probable cause burglary and transported to the Santa Monica Jail for processing. Once there, officers said they found hashish on the driver. He was identified as Cody Kendall Reed, 19, of Santa Monica He was booked for possession of marijuana and a switchblade, an outstanding warrant, speeding and bringing a controlled substance into jail. His bail was set at $55,000. The two passengers were identified as Masoud Skamm Taniwal, 20, and Raul Mario Corcio, 18, both from Santa Monica. Taniwal was booked for participating in a crime for the furtherance of a criminal street gang and for being a minor in possession of alcohol and violation of probation. His bail was set at $50,000. Corcio was also booked for participating in a crime in the presence of a criminal street gang, being a minor in possession of alcohol and violation of probation. His bail was also set at $50,000.
Thursday, March 19, at 2:45 a.m.,
Officers working an auto burglary suppression assignment in the 1200 block of Ninth Street observed a suspicious man in a carport standing next to a truck. Officers said the man began to urinate in the carport. Officers took the suspect into custody and found him to be in possession of burglary tools and a replica handgun in his waistband. Officers believed the man was in the alley with the intent to commit a robbery. Officers placed the suspect under arrest for probable cause robbery, possession of burglary tools, prowling, urinating in public and providing a false name to a police officer. The suspect was also found to be a parolee at large. He was identified as Ruben Eliaz Santos, 40, a transient. No bail was set.

Officers responded to the 1400 block of Wilshire Boulevard — Izzy’s — regarding a woman trying to pass a counterfeit $100 bill. The cashier told officers the woman was trying to pay a bill for $19.17. Officers questioned the woman and determined that she came into the restaurant with the intent to pay for her meal with the fake bill. The suspect was arrested and booked for passing a counterfeit bill and commercial burglary. The Secret Service was notified. The suspect was identified as Myrthala Lanier, 44, from Burbank. Her bail was set at $20,000.
Wednesday, March 4, at 6:12 a.m.,
Officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon near the corner of Fourth and Bay streets. When officers arrived, they made contact with a woman who said she and her boyfriend were hit with a belt by a woman who fled before police arrived. On March 16, officers found the alleged attacker near Fourth and Bay and placed her under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. She was identified as Trudy Carter-Torres, 46, a transient.
