Thursday, Sept. 1, at 12 p.m.,
Santa Monica police officers responded to the Santa Monica College Library regarding a report of a man using a mirror to look under stalls in the women’s restroom. College police officers located a suspect, and after interviewing several witnesses made an arrest. The suspect was transported to the Santa Monica Jail and booked for disorderly conduct and obstructing officers. He was identified as Joshua Flores, 28, of South Gate. His bail was set at $10,000.
Sunday, Sept. 4, at 8:55 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2600 block of the beach, near the bike path, regarding a report of a man on the ground unconscious and bleeding from the head and face. Another man was seen stealing property from the victim. When officers arrived, they located the victim and a witness who directed them to a male suspect walking east toward Barnard Way. Police detained the suspect, along with another man who witnesses said played a role in the incident. After medical treatment was rendered to the victim, officers spoke with the witnesses and suspects. They learned that the victim was involved in a fight when one of the suspects used a rock to strike him several times in the head and face, knocking him out. The man then walked away while a second suspect was seen removing property from the victim. The victim had several head and facial fractures and was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in serious/critical condition. The suspects were placed under arrest and transported to the Santa Monica Jail where they were booked. The case is still ongoing. The suspects were identified as Michael Zamora, 37, a transient; and Victor Quinones, 18, of Los Angeles. Zamora was booked for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $50,000. Quinones was booked for assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $30,000.
Saturday, Sept. 3, at 11 p.m.,
Officers responded to an emergency room at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center to interview a man who claimed he was the victim of an assault at his home in the 800 block of Wilson Place. The victim told officers that at about 10 p.m. that evening he and his roommate, who was allegedly intoxicated, got into an argument regarding the suspect’s girlfriend. The victim said that he started to walk down some stairs located on the back porch when he turned toward the suspect and was kicked in the mouth, causing him to fall backwards and strike the back of his head on the ground. The victim suffered a laceration to his lip and lost a front tooth. Officers went to the residence and took the roommate into custody for assault with a deadly weapon. He was identified as Joshua Greene, 35, of Santa Monica. His bail was set at $30,000.
Sunday, Sept. 4
A Pacific Park employee reported to the Santa Monica Police Department headquarters to be booked for embezzlement. The employee was arrested and cited out on July 31 after police received a tip from Pacific Park security that the employee was seen stealing money while working one of the carnival games. The suspect was ordered by the court to report to the SMPD. He was booked and released per the court order. He was identified as Miguel Ambrocio, 23, of Los Angeles.
Saturday, Sept. 3, at 1:05 a.m.,
Officers responded to the area of Lincoln and Olympic boulevards regarding a report of a woman being assaulted. When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim who said that her boyfriend struck her in the head with a brick. The victim, who was bleeding from an open wound to the left side of her head, told officers that she was asleep when her boyfriend suddenly woke her up and began hitting her in the head with the brick as he yelled obscenities. The suspect was located a short distance away on the freeway embankment and was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and spousal abuse. He was identified as Jeffrey Glen Cooke, a transient. His bail was set at $50,000.
Saturday, Sept. 3, at 12 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 2500 block of Santa Monica Boulevard — CVS — regarding suspicious people loitering in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they made contact with two people as they were sitting inside a parked vehicle. During the investigation, officers obtained consent to search the vehicle, at which time they recovered methamphetamine and crushed up Xanax. The driver was placed under arrest and booked for possession of a controlled substance and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. The passenger was released at the scene. The suspect was identified as Logan Westering, 20, of Woodland Hills. Bail was set at $10,000.
Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 1:52 p.m.,
Officers responded to the 1200 block of the Third Street Promenade — Apple Store — regarding a report of fraud. When officers arrived, they made contact with store employees who told them that two suspects entered the store and tried to buy a laptop and iPhone 4 using a bogus credit card. The suspects grew nervous when the employee called to verify the card. Both suspects fled the location without their credit card and were followed by store security until they were detained by police. Officers said they found other fraudulent credit cards in the suspects’ possession and determined they had made purchases at an Apple Store in San Diego a month earlier. The suspects were placed under arrest and booked for conspiracy, burglary and forging an access card. They were identified as Alexander Chin, 22, of Alhambra; and Sokvuen Sum, 22, of Rosemead. Bail was set at $20,000 for both.
