Malibu Celebrates Earth Month With Lineup of Free Environmental Events in April

The City of Malibu has announced a series of free, public environmental education and recycling events throughout April in recognition of Earth Month, culminating in Earth Day on April 22, which marks the 56th anniversary of the modern environmental movement.

"Malibu is committed to protecting our environment while building a resilient, thriving community," said Mayor Bruce Silverstein. "Earth Month is the perfect time for all of us to come together, learn, and take action."

Key events include:

International Dark Sky Week, April 13-17. The City will share tips on reducing light pollution and encourage residents to photograph Malibu's dark skies. More information is available at https://darksky.org/what-we-do/events/dark-sky-week.

Malibu Monarch Project Lecture, April 15, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Dr. Anna Jacobsen will discuss fire and drought impacts on chaparral ecosystems at Malibu City Hall, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road. Details at MalibuCity.org/OutdoorRec.

Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste Collection, April 18, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Residents may drop off hazardous household materials and shred up to five boxes of documents at the City Hall upper parking lot. Details at MalibuCity.org/EnviroCalendar.

Pollinator Plant Giveaway, April 19, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Free native plants will be distributed at Legacy Park, 23500 Civic Center Way. No registration required.

Pepperdine Earth Day Fair, April 21, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sustainability booths and activities at Pepperdine University as part of the Climate Calling 2026 conference.

Malibu Library Speaker Series featuring Bill McKibben, April 22, 5 p.m. The climate author and journalist will speak at Pepperdine University. Free, no RSVP required. Learn more at https://www.pepperdine.edu/climate-calling.

Pollinator Garden Installation, April 26, 1-4 p.m. Community planting event at Malibu Bluffs Park, Pacific Coast Highway at Malibu Canyon Road. Details at MalibuCity.org/OutdoorRec.
