Westside Family Health Center (WFHC), a community health center located in Santa Monica, is sponsoring most important and timely discussion on Women & Alzheimer’s this Wednesday, May 8 at noon at Virginia Avenue Park in Santa Monica. Two out of three cases of this disease are now women and the discussion will include prevention strategies and provide connections to support caregivers, families and professionals.
Moderating the panel is Sandy Gleysteen, director of live events and strategic partnership for Maria Shriver’s non-profit organization, the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement (WAM). She works to fulfill the mission of WAM, which is to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s as a women’s issue, to raise funds for women-based Alzheimer’s research and to create content and live events that educate people of all ages about the importance of maintaining brain health.
Speakers include: UCLA’s Dr. Kathleen Tingus, will talk medicine and explain the nature of the disease and what we know to do to minimize our risks for getting Alzhemer’s and other dementias. Evelyn Pacis is with the Alzheimer’s Association and will speak about services that are available to families impacted by the disease. A caregiver for her husband Michael, who has early onset Alzheimer’s, Janice Hassett will address caregiving challenges and tips.
This important discussion with light luncheon is free, but interested persons must register today. The program begins at noon and will conclude at 2 pm and will be held in the Therry Room of Virginia Avenue Park, Cloverfield at Pico in Santa Monica. Free parking is available on both the Virginia Avenue and Pico entrances to the park.
