CIVIC CENTER — After a crazy summer weekend, maybe the only thing that you'll want to do on a Sunday evening is chill and listen to some soothing jazz. Instead of doing so locked up in your bedroom, the annual Jazz on the Lawn series will be located at Stewart Park and will provide fun and free jazz concerts every Sunday throughout August, starting on the Aug. 5, from 5 p.m. — 7 p.m.
‚Ä¢ Aug. 5 — Dustbowl Revival
A unique blend on New Orleans swing, gypsy jazz, Appalachian folk and jug-band blues, Dustbowl Revival will have you mesmerized. Their instrumentation ranges from trombone, clarinet, tuba and trumpet to mandolin, fiddle and banjo. Having recently won the best Americana Song of the Year form the Independent Music Awards, this is a concert you won't want to miss.
‚Ä¢ Aug. 12 — Zane Musa Quartet
Zan Musa combines his traditional jazz roots with music of the contemporary era. His music effortlessly crosses boundaries into different genres of music and creates fresh and modern sounds.
‚Ä¢ Aug. 19 — The Ronnie Gutierrez Band featuring Leslie Paula
Styles of Afro Cuban and Brazilian to Latin jazz will be performed by percussionist Ronnie Gutierrez and his band. Old school salsa will also be played. Come at 4:30 p.m. for a free salsa lesson with Francisco and Stacey Martinez from The Dance Family Studio.
‚Ä¢ Aug. 26 — Rogelio Mitchell and Friends
Rogelio Mitchell, born in Panama, has a very mixed and original sound in his Caribbean-island style music. Blended with calypso, reggae and jazz, his creative music has brought him tours throughout Central and South America and appearances at several music festivals.
IZZE beverages will be complimentary and Beachy Cream, Frozen Crush and Alili's Fresh Fruit will serve refreshing snacks. If you choose to be green and bike, a free bike valet will be available. If not, parking will be available across the street.
