Celebrate the season by shopping farmers markets for the freshest stone fruits direct from California stone fruit growers. In the mood for a field trip? Ask our stone fruit producers McFarlan, Olson, and Ken’s Top Notch about the annual Organic Stone Fruit Jubilee event at the historical park in Kingsburg on June 22.
Ready for grilled peaches? It’s BBQ Season. Make sure to pick up everything you need for grilling at the farmers market from locally harvested fruits and veggies to freshly caught fish from Santa Barbara Channel Sea Food, a local fishermen’s collective, as well as regenerative pasture raised meats turkey, chicken, duck, pork and lamb from Casitas Valley Pastures at the Main Street Farmers Market.
We recently had the opportunity to tour Casitas Valley Pastures with Jeronimo, a fifth generation Argentinian farmer. His regenerative farming practices focus on small scale rotational grazing with an emphasis on cover cropping and building soil. At Pico, you will find plenty of grilling options as well including fresh locally caught fish and shellfish from Wild Local Seafood and pastured pork and cheeses from Step Ladder Ranch and Creamery and whole broiler chickens from Lily’s Eggs.
