The Santa Monica College Emeritus Art Gallery will present the 2025 SMC Emeritus Faculty Art Exhibition with a free virtual opening reception Thursday, June 26, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The exhibition showcases works by emeritus faculty members Lisa Adams, Vanessa Chow, Stephanie Donon, Robert Brian Huerta, Freddie Manseau, Janet Martorello and Catherine Tirr. The online event will be accessible through the gallery's website at smc.edu/emeritusgallery, where a Zoom link will go live at event time.

Emeritus Gallery Curator Jesse Benson will host the virtual reception, which will include a send-off for interim Emeritus Associate Dean Guadalupe Salgado-Shower. Several emeritus faculty members will join Benson to discuss individual artworks featured in the exhibition.

"It's an honor to showcase my emeritus faculty peers and their achievements as artists and designers," Benson said. "Each participant has devoted their life to art, education and caregiving, and is well-deserving of recognition. Students appreciate the opportunity to celebrate and gain insight into the professional practices of their instructors."

Salgado-Shower praised the faculty's contributions to the program.

"What an honor it has been to work alongside the incredibly talented emeritus faculty," she said. "This special showcase truly highlights their remarkable talents and dedication. It's a rare treat to celebrate all the people who teach and inspire the emeritus student body."

Following the 5 p.m. launch, the exhibition will remain available for viewing 24 hours a day through a link on the gallery website. The link directs viewers to a Facebook page open for public viewing without requiring a Facebook account.

SMC's Emeritus program was founded in 1975 as a noncredit program serving the lifelong learning interests of older adults. The program offers more than 120 noncredit adult education classes and special programs, serving more than 3,000 students annually.
