County Launches Fraud Reporting System for AB 218 Cases
Published:

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger announced the launch of a dedicated website and hotline for reporting suspected fraud related to AB 218 cases.

The AB 218 Fraud Reporting website at fraud.lacounty.gov/AB218 operates 24/7 and supports multiple languages to ensure accessibility for all residents. A corresponding hotline at (844) 901-0001 is staffed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with voicemail available outside business hours.

AB 218, authored by Assemblymember Gonzalez, extended the statute of limitations for childhood sexual abuse claims, resulting in thousands of lawsuits filed against counties and school districts. The legislation has generated billions of dollars in potential liability, prompting the need for anti-fraud measures.

Barger authored the motion creating these resources, which received unanimous Board approval. The supervisor emphasized the tools will help protect taxpayer resources while ensuring legitimate victims receive support.

"This resource gives residents a clear and accessible way to report suspected fraud, helping protect our community and strengthen trust in government operations," Barger said.

The fraud reporting system represents one of multiple anti-fraud measures implemented to safeguard public funds and maintain government transparency.
