The Gallery announced today that Chef Jeffrey Lunak’s Sumo Dog will be opening at The Gallery Food Hall on the Third Street Promenade on Saturday, September 8, 2018. To celebrate the opening, Sumo Dog will be offering a “Buy One, Get One Free” deal on their signature dogs the entire day. Sumo Dog is the latest culinary coup for the burgeoning food hall, which is already home to STRFSH by Chefs Michael and Bryan Voltaggio and Dialogue by James Beard Award-winning chef Dave Beran, recently named 2017’s Best New Restaurant by Los Angeles Magazine and one of the best new restaurants in the country by both Eater and GQ.
Known for appearances on Iron Chef America and United Tastes of America, Sumo Dog Chef/Founder Lunak was previously Chef de Cuisine for Masaharu Morimoto’s first restaurant in Philadelphia and Opening Executive Chef for the highly-regarded Morimoto Napa, where he earned three stars from Michael Bauer of the San Francisco Chronicle and Best New Restaurant from Food & Wine.
Sumo Dog began as a pop-up, gaining national attention following an appearance at Coachella. Lunak opened the first Sumo Dog restaurant in LA’s historic Koreatown, which is relocating to its new Santa Monica flagship location at The Gallery. Shortly after opening at The Gallery, Sumo Dog will also debut a street-level cart outside the development, serving up signatures – such as the eponymous Sumo Dog, Bacon Banh Mi Dog, and Kimchee Dog – as well as unique rotating specials.
Sumo Dog aims to redefine the American classic hot dog, using Asian-inspired flavors and ingredients to create unique and colorful combinations. The menu at Sumo Dog features traditional hot dogs, sides, sweet treats, and, for the first time, Lunak’s selection of burgers, elevated by premium ingredients sourced from high quality purveyors and punctuated with bold Asian flavors. Diners can indulge in a variety of hot dog options from pork sausage, American Wagyu beef, or Vegan dogs, topped with Asian ingredients such as wasabi relish, teriyaki sauce, Hayashi beef gravy, tempura crunchies and togarashi cheese sauce.
“The Gallery is becoming a remarkable dining destination in Los Angeles,” said Jeffrey Lunak Chef/Founder of Sumo Dog. “We are thrilled that Sumo Dog will be joining such unique and diverse culinary talent on one of the most iconic promenades in America.”
The Gallery was re-developed by Linwood Ventures alongside LPC West to be the Third Street Promenade’s premier dining collective. Linwood Ventures tapped K2 Restaurants, a hospitality group owned by John Kolaski, to consult in the development of new restaurant concepts within The Gallery Food Hall, including their own original concepts.
Sumo Dog will be located on the entry level of The Gallery and will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with extended hours Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 1315 3rd Street Promenade. For more information, visit www.eatsumodog.com or visit www.galleryfoodhall.com.
