The American Red Cross of Santa Monica’s annual “Red Tie Affair” fundraiser held at the Fairmont-Miramar Hotel Saturday helped raise nearly $150,000 for the nonprofit that provides health and safety education and assists families affected by disaster.
The 2009 Red Tie Affair saluted the medical profession and emergency medicine. Award-winning KTTV Fox 11 News anchor Christine Devine was master of ceremonies for the gala and celebrity chef, author and TV show host Nick Stellino supervised the preparation of a four-course, gourmet dinner created especially for the event.
Over 400 people attended the event.
Red Tie honorees included the cast and crew of the top-rated daytime television show, “The Doctors.” Jay McGraw, the show’s executive producer, accepted the American Red Cross Crystal Cross Award for the show’s contribution to the everyday understanding of medicine and health issues.
Emergency room physician Dr. Travis Stork; obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Lisa Masterson; plastic surgeon and reconstructive surgery expert Dr. Andrew Ordon; and pediatrician Dr. James Sears, who is part of the show’s cast, were also honored.
The Rick Crocker Spirit of Volunteerism Award was bestowed on Dr. Russ Kino, CEO of Saint John’s Emergency Specialists and medical director of Emergency Services. Santa Monica City Councilman Bobby Shriver presented the award. Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, Nethercutt Emergency Center and Saint John’s Health Center Emergency Department also received a Spirit Award.
Celebrities who attended included Dr. Phil McGraw of the “Dr. Phil Show,” Kendra Wilkinson from Playboy’s “The Girls Next Door,” actress Daisy Fuentes, former USC quarterback Matt Leinart and supermodel Jamie King.
