Fast food giant Burger King put the juice in more than just their burgers this past weekend, adding some flavor to the Santa Monica Pier with its Million Dollar Whopper World pop-up. On Saturday and Sunday, lines got longer and longer on the Pier’s parking deck despite dreary skies, as the creative construction invited visitors into a makeshift cavalcade of food and family fun.
The event included Burger King-related games, live DJ sets on a makeshift dancefloor, and the opportunity to don the restaurant chain’s famous paper crowns. For foodies, the exclusive Santa Monica Whopper was unveiled at the pop-up, promoting the Million Dollar Whopper competition that encourages fans to submit an idea for their dream Whopper sandwich with up to eight toppings.
The Santa Monica burger featured a flame-grilled all-beef or Impossible patty topped with Monterey Jack cheese, birria, citrus aioli, pickled roasted fresno chili slices, heirloom tomatoes, red leaf lettuce and smashed avocado on a sesame seed bun.
Later this year, three finalists in the Whopper contest will be tried out nationwide for a limited time, with the finalist receiving the most votes taking home a $1 million prize.
