Bruce Lurie Gallery will open "Observed / Imagined," a joint exhibition featuring Los Angeles-based photographer Gary Levinson and painter Jody Levinson, with an opening reception Saturday, April 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. A VIP preview will be held Thursday, April 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The exhibition, running April 18 through May 16, 2026, brings together the couple's contrasting artistic practices in a dialogue between external observation and internal experience.
Gary Levinson's photography is defined by restraint and patience, often depicting solitary individuals within sparse environments. His work has earned a Best Outdoor Photograph award from National Geographic and a Bronze Medal with four honorable mentions from the Paris International Street Photography Awards. He studied at the International Center of Photography in New York and Maine Media College.
Jody Levinson's abstract paintings explore personal themes including power, gender, secrecy and the unspoken narratives of childhood through an intuitive, physical process that moves across drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media. She holds a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University and has pursued further studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Maine Media College. Her work has received numerous honors, including Best in Show.
Together, their works invite viewers to consider how perception shapes understanding.
Bruce Lurie Gallery is located at 608 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, noon to 6 p.m.
