Santa Monica College (SMC) continues its Social Justice Lecture Series with a screening of the documentary “Determined: The Story of Holocaust Survivor Avraham Perlmutter” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26. A brief discussion and audience Q&A featuring Perlmutter’s daughter — award-winning filmmaker and scientist Keren Perlmutter — follows the screening.
The film screening and discussion are free and will be presented online as a live virtual event. A Zoom link taking guests directly to the event will be available on April 26 at smc.edu/calendar shortly before the event begins. To attend, Zoom software must be installed on the viewer’s computer (free download available at zoom.com).
The award-winning documentary follows Perlmutter as he outwits Nazis and overcomes numerous obstacles in his life to become a scientist and successful businessman. The remarkable story of survival is also a testament to human kindness, even in the darkest of hours, and to the achievements made possible through relentless perseverance.
The SMC Social Justice Lecture Series explores the concept of social justice and the variety of aspects, issues, and developments affecting and shaping it in today’s world. The series is sponsored by the SMC Associates (smc.edu/associates), a private organization that funds speakers and special programs at Santa Monica College.
