Written by Oscar Wilde and adapted by Dr. Adrianne Harrop, the satirical play skewers social hypocrisy with a story of two young men — each claiming to be named Ernest — who win the hearts of two women who fall in love with the wrong Ernest. As the bachelors struggle to keep up with their own stories, they become entangled in a tale of deception, disguise, and misadventure.
The play, first performed in 1895, is considered Wilde’s best dramatic achievement. The SMC production is directed by Dr. Harrop.
