Stephen Lloyd Fader, 42, has been charged with murder after stabbing his mother, father and himself last week.
Fader is accused of stabbing his mother and father on Jan. 24 at their Sunset Ave. home. His mother died at the scene but his father survived and remains hospitalized. Fader was also transported to a hospital that evening with self-inflicted stab wounds and he was officially charged last week following his release from the hospital.
“He’s been detained by us since the inception of the crime but this process only began when he got out of the hospital,” said Lt. Saul Rodriguez.
According to SMPD, Fader’s father called officers to the home at about 6:23 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found all three individuals with stab wounds.
“The preliminary investigation by SMPD Detectives revealed the three individuals are related: mother, father, and adult 42 year-old son,” said a statement from SMPD. “Detectives developed information leading to Stephen Fader as the suspect involved in the crime. Stephen Fader has been charged with 187(a) PC – Murder; and 664/187 PC – Attempted Murder. Fader remains in custody pending future court proceedings with a bail option of $2 million.”
Fader has had past contacts with local law enforcement for mental health issues.
