Target is opening a location just outside city limits in April.
The company announced earlier this month that it plans to open a small store in downtown Santa Monica in 2020, but Santa Monicans won’t have to wait that long to visit a Target closer than Culver City or Westwood. A Sawtelle location will open on Santa Monica Boulevard near Bundy Drive on Apr. 7.
Like the downtown Santa Monica store, the location at 11840 Santa Monica Blvd. will be smaller than a typical Target at about 31,000 square feet. Both locations are part of the company’s nationwide push to open compact stores in urban neighborhoods.
“(The location) will offer many of the same product categories guests can expect to find in a full-size store, with an assortment that is curated to best serve area residents,” a spokesperson said. “It will also offer Order Pickup, where guests can order online and pick up in a store – with nearly all orders ready within an hour.”
Target will occupy most of the ground floor of a large new development, leaving about 11,000 square feet for pet retailer Healthy Spot. Developer CIM Group started construction on the black and white building, which also houses 147 apartments in its upper four stories, in February 2016. A car dealership previously occupied the site.
Target will begin hiring about 100 team members for the Sawtelle store at a job fair on Monday, Feb. 4.
Cedars-Sinai
Cedars-Sinai has opened its first primary care practice in Santa Monica.
The healthcare provider has expanded its offices at the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and 20th Street to add four primary care physicians, labs and X-ray facilities, according to a press release Cedars-Sinai released Jan. 28. The location will also hire specialists in hematology and oncology, neurology, cardiology and ear, nose and throat in the coming months. The office is accepting new patients and accepts most forms of insurance.
"We hope these offices become a healthcare destination for local patients who want Cedars-Sinai care without traveling across town," said Mary Clare Lingel, vice president of strategic integration at Cedars-Sinai.
The 1919 Santa Monica Blvd. site also will serve as the new Santa Monica location for The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute, an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai. The offices will feature a range of prominent cancer specialists and services including hematology and oncology, surgical oncology and subspecialists in breast, lung, urology, gastroenterology and melanoma.
The new physicians will occupy 34,000 square feet across four floors.
The location was previously a Cedars-Sinai gastroenterology practice and is located across the street from the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute, an orthopedic clinic. It also adjacent to Saint John’s Medical Center and a few blocks from UCLA Medical Center-Santa Monica.
Cedars-Sinai is based in Beverly Hills but since 2015 has acquired a hospital in Marina del Rey and opened primary and urgent care facilities in Culver City and Playa Vista.
