The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man Saturday morning after a stabbing at the downtown Santa Monica Metro station.
The victim was stabbed in the chest but is expected to survive, said Ramon Montenegro, a public information officer with the Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau.
Montenegro said officers responded to the location at about 5 a.m. on May 2 and found the suspect near the station at 4th and Colorado. The victim was able to identify the suspect who was standing nearby and officers placed him under arrest. Montenegro said he could not release the suspect’s name but said he had admitted to the assault.
While the attack occurred on Metro property, Montenegro said the two homeless men began their interaction in another part of the city and they walked to the station. Neither of the two had boarded a train and the Sheriff’s Department is responsible for the incident because it occurred at the station.
