When you turn back the clock to 1979, it’s easy to spot some significant cultural milestones: Sony transformed music portability with the Walkman, Pink Floyd released The Wall, the first children’s TV network Nickelodeon launched... and, of course, Gelson’s opened in the Pacific Palisades.
Four decades ago, the Palisades was still a quiet emerging community, and Gelson’s helped to shepherd its growth and popularity, offering the very best produce, meats and other products, as well as unsurpassed standards for customer service. “We went out of our way to earn the confidence of the community, and they have remained loyal to their ‘local Gelson’s,’” recalls Donna Tyndall, who worked at the Palisades store back then and now serves as senior vice president, operations at Gelson’s Encino headquarters. “Many have been shopping here for decades, and many new customers are won over by our exceptional quality and service.”
On Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25, Gelson’s Pacific Palisades will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. In addition to a visit by Donna Tyndall and original Store Director Glenn Price, among other special appearances, Gelson’s will mark the milestone with specials, including 30% off wine, beer and spirits (see store for details); samples from Gelson’s Grill and other areas; free groceries (one winner every hour) from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and anniversary cake.
