The Woolsey fire is currently 10 percent contained but has expanded to 83,275 acres and all evacuation orders remain in place for areas threatened by the flames.
According to Cal Fire, there are now 3,242 firefighters, 418 engines, 19 helicopters, 56 dozers and 40 tenders working the blaze.
About 57,000 structures are threatened with 177 reported lost so far.
Officials are reiterating the need to leave if you’re under an evacuation order and at a morning press conference, several agencies said residents in nearby areas, including Pacific Palisades, should be vigilant today as the dangerous Santa Ana winds are coming back.
“This is a wind driven event and the winds are coming back,” said Chief John Benedict, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Heavy winds are projected to continue through Tuesday and Congressman Ted Lieu said residents should head to any of the evacuation shelters rather than risk staying in their homes.
“Much better for you to be at a shelter than potentially lose your life,” he said.
Malibu Councilman Skylar Peak said the community has been greatly devastated and about 50 homes had been damaged in the Pt. Dume neighborhood.
He said Malibu is a tight knit place but locals should leave due to the wind driven danger in the coming days.
“A lot of people remain on the ground there and I urge you to leave the area if you’re not prepared to deal with a major wind event immediately,” he said.
Peak said the Woolsey Fire is among them most destructive he’s ever seen and said residents should be prepared to be out of their homes for several days until the danger has passed.
“It is my understanding, to the hundreds of people in our community that have lost their homes, we’re going to do everything we can to get you back there when it’s safe.”
He said one Malibu councilmember, Jefferson Wagner, had lost his home in the fire and he was still hospitalized in a Santa Monica ICU as of Sunday morning.
"I do hope that he's going to be OK," he said.
The City of Malibu released a statement late Sunday morning.
"Malibu Mayor Pro Tem Jefferson 'Zuma Jay' Wagner is recuperating at a local hospital from conditions related to his efforts to save his home on Friday night during the Woolsey Fire," it said. "The City extends its support and best wishes for a complete recovery and quick return to the community that he loves. In order to protect his privacy and that of his family, no further information will be released."
Cal Fire said the winds continue to be a significant challenge.
“A strong Santa Ana will develop across Southern California Sunday through Tuesday as a strong surface high builds into the Great Basin,” said the most recent Cal Fire update. “The combination of strong wind gusts and extremely low relative humidity will create a dangerous fire weather environment. Santa Anas will blow into Thursday, but lessening in strength Wednesday through Thursday before onshore flow returns to Southern California late in the week to provide for humidity recovery.”

- Liberty Canyon west to Decker Canyon and south all the way to Pacific Coast Highway
