Southern California is in for a period of high heat, elevated wildfire danger and dangerous surf.
The National Weather Service says a strong high pressure system east of the region could produce record temperatures, including some triple-digit highs in some coastal areas.
But forecasters say people seeking relief from the heat by heading to beaches could face dangers from high surf generated as a south swell from former Hurricane Fabio combines with a northwest swell.
The peak of the heat wave is expected to occur Friday through Saturday, accompanied by very low humidity levels and north winds in some areas that raise the risk of wildfires.
