On July 24 at about 8:01 p.m., Santa Monica police officers responded to a request from the Santa Monica Fire Department for assistance. SMFD personnel were detaining a suspect for a possible vandalism and battery.
Officers determined the suspect kicked the window of a business, Chu Nin's salon at 318 Wilshire Blvd., several times, causing the window to break. A witness flagged down SMFD personnel. As SMFD exited the fire engine, the suspect proned himself out on the sidewalk.
The suspect was taken into custody by officers without incident. The damage was estimated at $1,000 to $1,500.
Joseph Anthony Colon, 33, homeless, was booked for vandalism. Bail was set at $20,000.
