On July 19 at about 9:25 a.m., Santa Monica police officers responded to call of a robbery in the area of 4th Street and Colorado Avenue.
An investigation revealed the victim was sitting on a bench in the 300 block of Colorado when the suspect approached, grabbed his luggage and attempted to flee with the victim's property. The suspect continued eastbound on Colorado.
The victim confronted the suspect. The suspect removed a metal handle from the luggage and struck the victim in face and body multiple times. The suspect, later identified as Alfred Anthony Fellis, 44, homeless, also kicked and punched the victim. The suspect fled the area with the victim's property.
Officers located the suspect at 2nd Street and Broadway. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The victim was treated at the scene for his injuries by SMFD paramedics.
Fellis was booked for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and a probation violation. Bail was set at $50,000.
