Incident of the day
On Feb. 19 at 8:30 p.m., officers were patrolling the alley east of the 2200 block of Lincoln Boulevard when they saw a man they knew was on probation due to previous recent arrests.
Officers contacted the subject and verified he was still on probation. Officers discovered the subject had search conditions as part of his probation.
Officers stopped the subject, conducted a search of his person and discovered a shuriken (throwing star) in his pocket. Officers ultimately arrested the subject, identified as Jose Melvin Rodriguez, for possession of a deadly weapon. Officers later learned that the subject was prohibited from owning a weapon due to a prior incident.
Rodriguez was arrested and booked for possession of a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by person with a mental disorder or illness and parole violation. Rodriguez was held at Santa Monica Jail without bail.
