A virtual UN of Music will be represented when works by composers from France, England, Germany, Spain and Austria are performed in the second concert of Chamber Music Palisades' 18th consecutive season at St. Matthew's Parish in Pacific Palisades on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
The 8 p.m. program will begin with a "Sonata for bassoon and piano" by Hindemith (Germany), followed by a "Sonata for flute and piano" by Poulenc (France). "Temporal Variations for oboe and piano" by Britten (England) and a "Duo for flute and oboe" by Ginastera (Spain) will lead to intermission. The second half will open with the "Duo for flute and bassoon No. 1" by Wolfgang (Austria) setting the stage for the major work of the evening, the "Trio for oboe, bassoon and piano" by Poulenc.
Guest artists for the evening will be oboist Jennifer Johnson and bassoonist Judy Farmer. They will join CMP Co-Artistic Directors Susan Greenberg, flute, and Delores Stevens, piano. Blending the various compositions together into a commentary on music in the 20th Century will be KUSC's veteran classical music host, Alan Chapman.
Now in its 18th season, Chamber Music Palisades was founded by two local residents and two professional musicians, all longtime residents of the Palisades. In addition to bringing the familiar classic repertoire performed by outstanding musicians to the Westside, CMP has commissioned and premiered more than 15 new works primarily by local and regional musicians.
