Incident of the day
On Jan.8 at approximately 2:20 a.m., Santa Monica policeofficers were patrolling the 1400 block of 2nd Court and saw the suspect dancing around a wooden stool in the middle of the alley that had a pile of burning cardboard on top of it. Flames from the burning material stretched to around 15 feet high.
After putting the fire out with a fire extinguisher, the officers asked the suspect what he was doing. The suspect said he was trying to keep warm, but officers could see the suspect had no means of extinguishing the fire and that the flames were dangerously close to a nearby structure.
The suspect was then taken into custody for committing arson. Adam Francis Klatt, 40, of Los Angeles, had bail set at $500.
