
JUPITER, Fla. — Former Santa Monica High School slugger and current San Diego Padres farm-hand Cody Decker has been selected to represent Israel for the qualifiers of the World Baseball Classic currently taking place across the globe.
His Israeli national team defeated South Africa on Wednesday in the opener in Jupiter, Fla.
Israel will face the winner of the Spain-France game Friday at 1 p.m. at Roger Dean Stadium.
Decker, who plays outfield for the AA San Antonio Missions, hit 29 home runs this season with 81 runs batted in.
