PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY — A 32-year-old Santa Monica man is facing criminal charges for allegedly carrying on a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl, police said.
Brian Anthony Marks was arrested at his home on Jan. 3 by investigators with the Santa Monica Police Department’s Youth and Family Services Unit and was booked for allegedly committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, said SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis.
Bail was set at $500,000.
Lewis said Marks met the female in September of 2011 on a “mobile texting application,” similar to a chat room. Marks allegedly developed an ongoing sexual relationship with the teen.
Police began investigating on Dec. 14, 2011, Lewis said.
Investigators are concerned there may be other alleged victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Investigators can be reached at (310) 458-8495.
