NOMA — Academy Award-winner Reese Witherspoon was hit Wednesday by an elderly driver while jogging along Georgina Avenue, Santa Monica police said.
Witherspoon, who won the Oscar in 2006 for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in the Johnny Cash biopic “Walk The Line,” was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, said SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis.
The 84-year-old driver was traveling south on 20th Street around 11:14 a.m. when she failed to stop for Witherspoon, who was running west in a crosswalk.
The driver cooperated with investigators and she was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Lewis said.
Witherspoon is best known for playing upbeat characters. Her breakthrough role came as Elle Woods in the 2001 comedy “Legally Blonde.” She is one of the top female draws in Hollywood and was named one of the 50 most beautiful people by People magazine in 2002.
