The Santa Monica Museum of Art recently appointed Bruce A. Samuels, MD, and Randi Malkin Steinberger to its board of trustees.
Samuels is a cardiologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and an assistant clinical professor of medicine at UCLA. He recently led an effort to provide uninsured and under-insured artists with access to Cedars-Sinai’s ambulatory clinic.
Steinberger studied art history and photography in Florence, Italy. She has won critical acclaim for her books and documentary films.
“Through our exhibitions and programs, we seek to identify the important voices in the chorus of contemporary art that need to be heard,” said Elsa Longhauser, SMMoA’s executive director. “In supporting the museum as board members, especially during these times of financial insecurity, they are helping us to advance that mission,” she added of the new members.
The SMMoA Board of Trustees was established to promote museum oversight, governance, legal and fiduciary compliance, fundraising and the representation of diverse communities. Other board members are president Peter A. Gelles, Price Latimer Agah, Rosa Sinnott and Philip Yenawine.
Through exhibitions, education and outreach programs, SMMoA seeks to expand boundaries and enhance public knowledge of art. SMMoA is located in Building G1 of Bergamot Station on Michigan Avenue. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5, $3 for seniors and students.
