A weekend crash that hospitalized a driver is being investigated as a potential DUI but officials said it could be up to a month before any conclusions are drawn.
According to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD), a section of Ocean Park Blvd. between 26th and 28th streets was closed for several hours on Saturday afternoon after a car careened across the street and into a tree.
Officials said the damage to the vehicle and the tree was significant. While the driver was taken to the hospital, their condition was unknown at press time.
SMPD said the accident was being investigated as a DUI involving drugs and depending on the results of that investigation, the driver could face charges.
That work will take up to 30 days to complete.
