Bay: Hundreds of volunteers came out on Saturday, April 16, to pitch in and clean up Santa Monica Beach. According to the environmental nonprofit Heal the Bay, which sponsored the event, nearly 500 volunteers spent their morning at the beach; with a combined effort, about 115 pounds of trash were removed from the shore. Heal the Bay described the cleanup as “one of the largest standalone cleanups taking place during Earth Week in the U.S. in an iconic location.” It was held to coincide with the 52nd annual Earth Day, which will be celebrated on Friday, April 22.
