Santa Monica Travel & Tourism announces the appointment of its newest member to the Board of Directors – Charlie Lopez-Quintana, Vice President and Managing Director of ETC Hotels for Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar. The new slate of Tourism Marketing District Committee Members was elected for the 2022-2023 term.

Drawing upon more than 20 years of global luxury hospitality experience, including three years as the General Manager at Hotel Casa del Mar and one year as General Manager at Shutters, Lopez-Quintana now oversees the operations at both luxury beachfront properties.

Before joining ETC in 2017, Lopez-Quintana spent eight years at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, where he served as the Executive Director of Resort Operations and was responsible for overseeing both front-and-back of the house operations teams that include accommodations, spa, recreation, fitness, golf, and retail. His career started with The Ritz-Carlton in Europe, the Middle East and Asia where he assisted in the opening of nine Ritz-Carlton properties. In 2001, Lopez-Quintana moved to the United States to open The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, and to support the opening of seven additional Ritz-Carlton properties around the globe.

The new TMD committee members who were elected to their full 2022-2023 term in February include committee officers Chair Younes Atallah, General Manager, Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel; Vice Chair Sam Jagger, General Manager, Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows;

and Secretary and Treasurer Aileen Carreon, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, ETC Hotels, as well as committee members Melissa Alvarez, General Manager, Courtyard by Marriott Santa Monica;Kevin Anawati, Director of Sales & Marketing, Le Méridien Delfina Santa Monica; James Graham, General Manager, Sea Blue Hotel; Juan Viramontes, Member, General Manager, Gateway Hotel Santa Monica;Julien Laracine, Managing Director, Santa Monica Proper Hotel; and Jessica Rincon, General Manager, JW Marriott Santa Monica Le Merigot.

Newest TMD committee members are Alvarez, Graham, Laracine and Rincon. Returning for an additional term are Carreon, Anawati, Atallah, Jagger, and Viramontes.

“With Charlie’s appointment, our full board and all nine TMD committee members now in place, we are well-positioned to address challenges and capitalize on planned strategies with our tourism services and outreach efforts,” added Kerns.

The TMD, formed in 2012, and its committee members provide recommendations to the SMTT Board of Directors on sales and marketing programs, special events and activities that attract visitors to increase overnight visitation, employment, and revenues city-wide. Santa Monica Travel & Tourism was named as the TMD owners’ association and works to provide marketing and promotional services, research and analytics, and education on tourism trends and best practices to bring added benefit to the hotels that assess fees to support such programming.
