Samohi Theatre is excited to present Legally Blonde – The Musical. Accompanied by a live orchestra, Legally Blonde is an energetic and sassy musical comedy – the perfect welcome back to live theatre after a two-year pandemic pause. Inspired by the 2001 novel and hit movie by the same name, Legally Blonde – The Musical first debuted on Broadway in 2007 (with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin and book by Heather Hach). It is a “…straightforward feel-good story packed to the brim with catchy numbers and demanding choreography.” (Broadway World)

From Santa Monica High School Director Kate Barraza: “On her quest, Elle Woods follows her heart and stays true to herself, despite being humiliated, ridiculed, embarrassed, sexually harassed, and deflated. Unlike many wpeople faced with challenges, she approaches her situation with humility, an open mind, and sheer determination.

Elle is an inspiration — she is intelligent, determined, and picks herself up when she falls. It has been a pleasure to watch the two students who play Elle Woods embody these characteristics with their own unique interpretation of the character. It is evident that both actors are empowered by the opportunity to play a female hero. We also see the unwavering support of Elle’s “sisters,” through the theatrical devise of a Greek Chorus, as they help tell the story and lead Elle through her journey. This talented cast of characters has dedicated their time, energy, and talent to portray the story of Legally Blonde and have done so with gusto and grace. It has truly been an honor to direct them. We would not be able to tell this story in this way without our dedicated technical theatre students who have worked tirelessly to make this production a success. Legally Blonde is a joyful, uplifting story that celebrates both individuality and the success you can only find by being true to yourself.”
