PCH: Santa Monica Fire Department responded to a structure fire call in the 1300 block of Palisades Beach on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 2. The response included a ladder truck, three engines and a support vehicle, plus McCormick Ambulance Service and Santa Monica Police Department. Pacific Coast Highway was down to one lane heading southbound just north of the McClure Tunnel, with traffic backed up past Temescal Canyon Road. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Crews responded to a three-story residential structure fire, with smoke coming from the walls.

“After an extensive search, the wall behind the fireplace was opened where crews found active fire,” Fire Captain Patrick Nulty explained in an email. “Significant salvage operations were started in conjunction with fire extinguishment.” Nulty said the quick actions of residents calling 9-1-1 helped make a positive impact on the outcome: “The overhaul to the home was minimal and was a tremendous save by the on-scene suppression crews.”
