A homeless man was doused in liquid and set on fire in Ozone Park at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Oct. 16.

Santa Monica Police Department Detectives are investigating the incident as an attempted homicide. The victim was asleep at the time of the attack and suffered burns to approximately 50 percent of his body.

The victim also had a two inch laceration on the top of his head from possible blunt force trauma. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

SMPD is working to identify and track down the attacker. There was a 5’6″ to 5’8″ man seen in the area at the time of the incident, who was described as wearing a hat, long-sleeved white shirt and dark shorts.
