Santa Monica Public Library is excited to announce a virtual family-friendly summer reading show, “Spin Me a Shadow, Tell Me a Tale,” on Monday, July 12, at 2:30 pm. Daniel Barash of Firelight Shadow Theater will introduce participants to the art of shadow puppetry, and then help them create puppets to adapt versions of well-loved tales to the shadow screen.
Participants can pick up materials to make a shadow puppet stage and puppets from the Main Library, Pico Library Curbside or Montana Library Curbside starting July 6. Register in advance here: bit.ly/FirelightSTsmpl   
Santa Monica Public Library’s free, all-ages Summer Reading Program, “Reading Colors Your World, runs through August 15. Register in person at the Main Library, Pico Branch Curbside and Montana Avenue Branch Curbside, or online at smpl.beanstack.org. Track your reading over the summer to reach the goal of 10 hours/600 minutes read. Kids and teens earn special activity kits at 300 and 600 minutes read, and adults are entered into a prize drawing after 600 minutes read.
