A man has been arrested in connection with a string of sexual assaults at local nursing homes.
According to the Santa Monica Police Department, charges have been filed against 55-year-old Juan Victor Mendoza for assaults that occurred between 2012 and 2018.
In a statement, SMPD said Mendoza was first arrested in 2019 for one allocation of assault on an elderly victim in Santa Monica. After Mendoza made bail, detectives were told of three other victims who said Mendoza also assaulted them.
Mendoza was rearrested last week and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has filed four felony charges against him.
“Mendoza is currently in custody with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department with a bail of $250,000,” said the statement. “The Santa Monica Police Department believes Mendoza may be responsible for additional crimes in the Los Angeles area.”
