Officers responded to the 1200 block of the 3rd Street Promenade for a Battery call. Upon arrival they met with the victim who shared she was walking on the promenade when she observed a male suspect ranting and raving. As the male got close to the victim, she told the male suspect to stay away from her. The male then pushed her on the back of the head with enough force to knock her to the ground where she sustained a laceration to her face and hand. Officers were able to provide a description of the suspect who was found in the area by assisting officers. Maurice Antonio Braggs, 46, homeless, was arrested for elder abuse and a probation violation.

  1. My wife was the woman who was viciously attacked, she weighs 102lbs on a good day. It’s now 3 weeks post attack and she is in quite a bit of pain with a broken shoulder, still assessing if surgery will be required.

A wonderful lifestyle where citizens, walking on a popular public promenade going to local coffee shop, are in constant fear for personal safety.

I understand homelessness is a complicated issue with no easy answers. However, one of the basic tenants of any civilized culture is public safety; on this front, Santa Monica fails miserably. After the attack, I’ve been tracking assaults in our city via a web site called Spot Crime, we are quite literally prey to the homeless predators.
