Several blocks of Downtown Santa Monica were temporarily closed Sunday morning due to a suspicious package.
The Santa Monica Police Department issued a warning at about 9:50 a.m. asking the public to stay away from the 400 block of Santa Monica Blvd. Officers said a suspicious package had been reported and the bomb squad were on the way to investigate. SMPD closed 4th and 5th streets from Arizona to Broadway and Santa Monica from Fourth to Second.
After about an hour, the package was deemed harmless and streets were reopened.
The incident was the second suspicious package call in a week.
A section of the 3rd Street Promenade was closed for several hours on Sept. 16 as police are investigated a suspicious package on the 1400 block of the street.
SMPD received a call at about 5:30 p.m. from a witness who said they saw someone place a device resembling a pressure cooker into a trash can near the Urban Outfitters store.
Visitors were evacuated from the block and Broadway was closed between second and fourth streets while the bomb squad investigated. The device was brought back to the bomb squad truck and determined to be safe.
