Santa Monica Police Department arrested a man Friday for attacking his girlfriend in their home on the 1100 block of 6th Street.

The woman, Anna Koosmann, 38, is in critical condition and has been unconscious since the attack, said SMPD Lt. Saul Rodriguez. Officers arrested her boyfriend, Kevin Ferron, 43, on murder charges. Arrest records show Ferron has been arrested four times in the last year, most recently on a felony charge on Jan. 21, and Rodriguez said he has a prior history of domestic violence.

Santa Monica Fire Department received a medical call Friday and found Koosmann unconscious and apparently intoxicated. Firefighters discovered she had suffered trauma to her head and called SMPD.

SMPD took Ferron into custody because of his history of domestic violence, Rodriguez said.

Ferron was charged with section 187(a) of the penal code that contains murder and attempted murder. His bail was set at $1 million.

Koosmann and her previous boyfriend were arrested in December 2018 for refusing to follow instructions from a flight attendant on a Delta flight to Minnesota. Koosmann wanted to use the bathroom and became unruly when a flight attendant told her she wasn’t allowed to.

She was charged a misdemeanor count of obstructing the legal process and sentenced to one year of probation and 10 days community service in September 2017.

  1. What does Koosmann’s prior record have ANYTHING to do with her attempted murder at the hands of her boyfriend? “Well she has a prior criminal record, so she had it coming. Karma”.
