A woman was wounded in a shooting Friday night in the parking lot of a liquor store. The man who shot at her from his bicycle is still at large.

The Santa Monica Police Department says details are still fuzzy concerning what prompted the altercation that occurred Friday, November 16 at 7:22 p.m in the parking lot of Eddie’s Liquor store on 20th Street.

According to SMPD Lt. Saul Rodriguez, police were told that a man and a woman in a vehicle got into an argument with a man on a bicycle. The altercation caused the cyclist to pull out a gun, shoot into the air as a warning and then shoot at the man and woman.

Rodriguez said it’s unclear whether the altercation began in the parking lot or spilled into it from a previous location. He adds that from the information gathered thus far, the altercation appears to be an isolated incident and not gang-related.

When police arrived at the scene, all parties were gone. Officers eventually found evidence of a shooting.

The female victim was later found at a local hospital with superficial wounds. Rodriguez said the bullet traveled through the exterior and interior of the car, piercing the vehicle’s steel frame and seat cushioning before bruising the victim.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s with dark hair and unshaven facial hair, wearing dark clothing.
