On Thursday, October 11, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., The Bay Foundation (TBF) will host its 4th Annual Coastal Connections fundraiser at a customized venue in Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier. The family friendly event will feature an early start at 4 p.m. to enjoy the rides and games for free all night long. At 5:30 p.m. the event will formally open with, hors d’oeuvres, bar, and mind-bending magic performed by Johnny Wu from Hollywood Magic Castle.

The event celebrates our connections with our coast and honors the leadership of those who protect our beaches, fishing spots, kelp forests, and wetlands.

The honorees of Coastal Connections 4 are:

California State Senator Ben Allen

Fran Diamond, L.A. Regional Water Quality Board and Chair of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission

the California State Coastal Conservancy

To carry on the great work of our honorees TBF is working with the region’s leading universities and high schools to develop another generation of coastal leadership. Foremost being Loyola Marymount University and the Coastal Research Institute, launched by LMU and TBF in 2017. 2018 marked the third consecutive year that UCLA IoES senior practicum students supported TBF’s research goals. Marymount High School students complimented the efforts of LMU based interns this summer gaining valuable field experience. In total these efforts developed methods or conducted research related to microplastics, sea level rise, ocean acidification, beach characterization, wetland condition assessment, remote sensing, and human health benefits of naturalized beaches.

“At TBF we work hard day in day out to ensure that LA’s coast has the best available science to guide and inform the many projects that we conduct to protect public health, restore ecosystems, and adapt to a changing climate. We do not do this alone and finding partnerships that can advance these projects and research are at the core of our efforts,” states TBF Executive Director Tom Ford. “At CC4 you’ll have a chance to meet these people, learn about these projects and have fun all at the same time. I hope to see you there.”
