The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says people have received suspicious phone calls with a caller representing themselves as LASD personnel and asking for personal information to help clear up warrants.

In a news release issued Tuesday, sheriffs warn to not give out any personal information, such as an address, Social Security number, and bank account numbers. The LASD does not solicit warrant information by phone.

Those receiving e-mails asking for personal information and money are encouraged to contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center at, a website jointly sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National White Collar Crime Center, which offers Internet crime prevention tips and an opportunity to file a complaint if you feel you are a victim of Internet crime.
