City officials are encouraging residents to visit one of three Farmers’ Markets during the Carmageddon II weekend, set for Sept. 29-30 when Interstate 405 will be closed for construction.

At people can find recipes using seasonal ingredients that can be purchased at the markets.

“We are the largest grower-only certified Farmers’ Market in Southern California and a favorite for local chefs,” said Farmers Market Supervisor Laura Avery. “So avoid the Sepulveda Pass and walk or bike to Santa Monica’s famous Farmers’ Markets.”

The markets open during that weekend will be:

• Pico Farmers’ Market — Virginia Avenue Park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

• Downtown Farmers’ Market — on Arizona Avenue between Fourth and Second streets from 8:30 a.m. — 1 p.m. on Saturday.

• Main Street Farmers’ Market — Heritage Square from 9:30 a.m. — 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Amelia Saltsman, author of the “Santa Monica Farmers Market Cookbook,” has provided the recipes being featured over the 405 closure weekend. They include a rustic eggplant-tomato bake, tromboncino trifolati and roasted autumn fruits.
