GOLETA, Calif. — Santa Monica softball came to the end of its playoff road in the second round on Tuesday after a 1-0 loss to defending champs Dos Pueblos on the road.
The final score is a stark contrast from the Vikings’ first round CIF-Southern Section Division 4 game against La Quinta as Samohi ran away with a 21-1 victory.
Dos Pueblos advances to face La Habra on the road today.
Samohi finishes the season 16-14 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the Ocean League. It was the Vikings’ 12th straight league crown.
Samohi tennis makes final
Samohi’s boys’ tennis team rolled past Esperanza on Tuesday to reach the final of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.
The Vikings will face No. 1 seed Palm Desert on Friday, May 30 at the Claremont Club. Samohi is technically the home team.
The match is a rematch of last year’s final where Palm Desert took home the title.
Cross-town matchup
Santa Monica-based schools Pacifica Christian and New Roads will square off in the third round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs on Friday.
The game will be played at North Venice Little League at 2 p.m. Pacifica Christian hosts.
Pacifica Christian’s path to the third round began in the wild card round. New Roads enters the game as the No. 3 seed in the division.
Decker moves up
Former Samohi slugger Cody Decker has been promoted to the San Diego Padres’ Triple-A affiliate in Tucson, Ariz. it was announced this week.
It’s been a banner month for the UCLA grad. He was named the Texas League hitter of the week twice in a row before being moved up.
Decker, who was drafted in the 22nd round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft, was hitting .286 with 14 homers this season for the San Antonio Missions.
