CITYWIDE — A total of six Santa Monica-based basketball teams have been named to the first CIF-Southern Section polls, it was announced on Monday.
The boys’ team from Santa Monica High School earned the highest ranking, with a No. 5 selection in a competitive Division 1AA.
Crossroads and St. Monica both made the Division 4A poll, at No. 8 and No. 11 respectively.
The Pacifica Christian boys are ranked No. 10 in Division 5A.
In girls’ hoops, Samohi opens the season ranked No. 14 in Division 1AA.
St. Monica’s girls are slotted at No. 8.
Culver City loses in final
Culver City’s football team fell to host Arroyo Grande, 42-14, in the CIF-SS Western Division final on Friday.
Culver City qualified for the final after beating Samohi, 37-6, the week before.
The Centaurs’ run to the final began with a surprising win over No. 1 seeded Serra in the first round.
Samohi boys’ soccer in top 10
Samohi’s boys’ soccer team is ranked No. 9 in the latest CIF-SS Division 4 rankings, it was released Monday.
The Vikings are 2-1-2 on the season.
Samohi hosts Long Beach Poly on campus today at 5 p.m.
The game will be played on the new synthetic turf field, which was dedicated this fall.
