DOWNTOWN — CIF-Southern Section voters are starting to take notice of the strong season Santa Monica High School’s football team is enjoying.

Samohi (7-1 overall, 3-0 in the Ocean League) moved up a spot to No. 7 in the latest Western Division poll released on Monday.

The Vikings entered the season unranked, eventually breaking into the poll three weeks ago.

They are joined on the poll by league rival Culver City, which is ranked No. 8.

The two teams clash on Friday at Culver City. Samohi is first in the league, with Culver City and Inglewood tied for second. Inglewood holds an edge over Culver City by defeating them earlier this season.

Pacifica Christian tumbles down poll

A 1-1 week didn’t fare well for Pacifica Christian’s girls’ volleyball team among CIF-SS voters.

The Seawolves fell from No. 1 to No. 7 in the latest Division 4-A rankings.

The loss came at the hands of Heritage League rival Milken last Thursday.

Pacifica Christian has completed its regular season with a 22-6 overall record and 7-1 league mark.

The Seawolves currently hold a one-game lead over Milken in the standings, but Milken can make up ground today on the road against Faith Baptist.
