Snyder Diamond, a family-owned kitchen and bath company with deep roots in Santa Monica, has teamed up with the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market and appliance brands Sub-Zero and Wolf to launch a scholarship program in support of local farming education.

The Snyder Diamond Scholarship program was created to promote farmer education and outreach, to help build and reinforce the locally-grown food system and to strengthen the local farm community, city officials said.

Fourteen scholarship awards of $500 each will be presented today at 8 a.m. at the Downtown Farmers’ Market. This is the second round of scholarship awards to be granted by Snyder Diamond.

The award ceremony will take place on the Third Street Promenade at Arizona Avenue. Awards will be personally presented by Snyder Diamond President Russ Diamond. Also in attendance will be Santa Monica Farmers’ Market Supervisor Laura Avery and members of the City Council.

The Snyder Diamond Scholarship Program represents a unique partnership between a longtime Santa Monica-based business and the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market, which turns 30 years old this year, Avery said.

The program was created by Diamond to promote awareness of the connection between the kitchen and the farm, and to celebrate the culinary pleasures of farm fresh produce.
