The Ocean Park Cafe is inviting Santa Monicans to chow down on a pancake breakfast Labor Day weekend, with 100 percent of proceeds going to support local restaurateur Fred Deni’s Culinary Arts After-School Program at the Santa Monica Police Activities League.
Participants in the program — open to students aged 14 to 17 — receive weekly hands-on instruction from industry professionals in the art of preparing and cooking fast, easy and nutritious meals using fresh ingredients grown locally.
The Culinary Arts curriculum includes excursions to local restaurants educating Santa Monica teens on the inner-workings of the business and inspiring career interest.
Money raised will help PAL, located at Memorial Park, expand its test kitchen, revamp shelving and possibly purchase more cutlery and food storage containers.
The pancake breakfast is $6.95 and includes a savory stack of fresh blueberry or strawberry wheat pancakes served with a choice of syrups, and a side of sausage, bacon or ham.
For more information, call (310) 452-5720. The cafe is located at 3117 Ocean Park Blvd.
